Due Diligence Study

Due Diligence Study

Pure energy (REGen) Ltd secures Advisory contract with the European Energy Efficiency Fund (eeef), conducting a technical due diligence study for a proposed biogas plant in Latvia.

Pure energy carries out due diligence including EU Taxonomy assessment for a biomethane plant in Latvia

In February 2024, Pure energy (REGen) Ltd submitted the results of our study to support the Due Diligence scope for a proposed biomethane plant located in Northern Latvia, currently considered as a candidate for eeef funding.

The proposed biogas facility will produce biomethane which in turn will be directly injected into the national gas transmission network. Biogas will be generated from locally farmed animal manure resulting in reduced farm waste and fossil fuel usage.

Biogas Plant Site Plan

The anaerobic digestion plant will also produce liquid CO2 to be used in the food and beverage industry.

Digestate, a process bi-product, will subsequently be used by the local farming community as an environmentally friendly fertiliser, resulting in annual carbon emission savings of around 40,000 T CO2e from the entire plant.

Biomethane is an environmentally friendly substitute of natural gas

During the review process, Pure energy identified specific technical risks, together with recommendations for mitigating these risks to populate the project risks register and review the technical due diligence checklist.

A Greenhouse gas impact assessment and CO2 emission savings calculation was also completed as a part of this due diligence exercise, thereby confirming harmful environmental related emissions may be deemed insignificant from the proposed project.

The Pure energy team also carried out an EU Taxonomy assessment with observations following assessment that the proposed project is in line with the technical screening criteria as reflected in the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED).
