Advancing EnergyBox™ Towards Commercialisation

From Climate Innovation to Commercial Deployment

Pure energy (REGen) Ltd’s participation in Cohort 5 of the Climate Innovation Platform (CIP) has now completed. The six-month programme was delivered through the University of Birmingham, Energy Systems Catapult, supported by HSBC Innovation Banking.

As one of 13 companies selected to participate in the 2026/7 programme, our company participation was focused on accelerating product development and commercialisation of our EnergyBox™ product, an efficient modular ground source heat pump (GSHP) solution, designed to simplify low-carbon heat networks delivery.

Climate innovation needs to progress beyond the problem solving phase – it needs technical, commercial and collaborative foundations to move from concept to efficient deployment.


The programme brought together innovators working across the clean energy and climate technology sector, providing opportunities to strengthen technical development, explore routes to market, understand inherent commercialisation challenges and build relationships across the wider innovation ecosystem.

Developing EnergyBox™ Through Collaboration

The EnergyBox™ is designed as a pre-assembled GSHP solution, designed to simplify the connection between a ground-loop array and a property’s heating and domestic hot water system.

The concept incorporates key heat pump components, controls, hydraulics, buffer/interface equipment and monitoring into a factory-assembled enclosure. This approach reduces the complexity associated with conventional onsite heat pump installation, creating a cost effective deployment model.

The CIP programme provided the opportunity to closely examine our technology from both technical and commercial perspectives, confirming the future actions required to progress EnergyBox™ towards market deployment.

Technical Feasibility

During the CIP programme, we commissioned Genius Energy Labs Ltd to undertake a desktop technical assessment of the EnergyBox™ design common rail hydraulic integrated solution.

The subsequent hydraulic model assessment confirmed feasibility of connecting multiple closed-loop boreholes to multiple EnergyBox™ units within a multiple dwelling scenario. The assessment considered flow distribution, hydraulic balancing, common rail configuration, flow metering, deployment scalability.

EnergyBox™ Variant Assessment Summary

The assessment confirmed that the modular EnergyBox™ concept is technically feasible as a GSHP product, capable of connection to either a dedicated or shared ground-loop infrastructure, with either shared borehole and common rail deployment options viable in principle.

Importantly, this study supports the value for money strategy adopted by our company by confirming domestic property heat loads where the EnergyBox™ product line may be standardised.

Strengthening the EnergyBox™ Brand

Alongside the technical work completed, we also collaborated with YellowFin Ltd to develop the online commercial presentation of EnergyBox™ product line.

The scope included creation of a dedicated EnergyBox™ website, developing the product’s visual identity, provide an effective platform to communicate benefits of the technology, product applications and development journey.

The combination of technical feasibility, product development and commercial branding represents an important step in moving EnergyBox™ beyond product concept development and towards a market-ready proposition.

Collaboration Driving Climate Innovation

The next stage for our EnergyBox™ technology requires a transition from technical feasibility into repeatable deployment – a strong value proposition, effective engineering support and a clear route to market.


A valuable aspect of the Climate Innovation Platform was the opportunity to collaborate with fellow innovators, technical specialists, commercial organisations and stakeholders, all working towards a common objective; low carbon technology development.

Our Perspective

Participation in the Climate Innovation Platform programme has helped us examine our EnergyBox™ design through a wider lens – resulting in strengthened product technical foundations whilst developing the commercial proposition and partnerships needed to support future market deployment.
